Taking negative cues from the global markets and subdued domestic demand, copper prices extended losses for the second straight day by falling 0.34% to Rs 437.95 per kg in futures trading today.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, February copper declined by Rs 1.50, or 0.34% to Rs 437.95 per kg in business turnover of 7313 lots.

The April contract shed Rs 1.45, or 0.33% to Rs 442.45 per kg in 415 lots.

Market analysts attributed the fall in copper futures to weak global trend amid concerns that budget negotiations deteriorated in the US.

Also, subdued demand at domestic spot markets from consuming industries influenced, they said.

Meanwhile, copper for delivery in three months fell by 0.5% to 7,885 dollar a metric tonne, the lowest since November 30 on the London Metal Exchange.
