Copper futures prices fell by 0.37 per cent to Rs 398.65 per kg today, as speculators booked profits after gains in the previous session, even as the metal strengthened at the London Metal Exchange (LME).
At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, copper for delivery in February traded Rs 1.50, or 0.37 per cent down at Rs 398.65 per kg, with a trade volume of 36 lots. It ended 0.50 per cent higher at Rs 400.15 per kg in the previous session.
The metal for delivery in April also weakened by Rs 1.40, or 0.35 per cent to Rs 400.85 per kg, with a business turnover of four lots.
Meanwhile, copper contract for three-month delivery was trading 0.14 per cent higher at $8,751.75a tonne at the LME.
Analysts said profit booking by speculators, kept pressure on the copper futures prices here but firm trend in metal at the LME on diminishing inventories, capped losses here.
