Tracking a firming trend in global markets, copper prices rose by Rs 6.30 to Rs 346.95 per kg in futures trade today as speculators enlarged their positions.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, November copper rose by Rs 6.30, or 1.85%, to Rs 346.95 per kg, with a business turnover of 26,253 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in February moved up by Rs 6.30, or 1.82%, to Rs 351.65 per kg, with a trade volume of 1,739 lots.

Analysts said besides a firming trend in overseas market, increased buying by speculators on the back of pick-up in demand from consuming industries mainly pushed up the copper futures prices.

Meanwhile, copper for three-month increased by 2.4% to $6,963 a tonne on the London Metal Exchange.
