Copper and nickel prices fell up to Rs 5 per kg on the wholesale non-ferrous metal market today, largely in tandem with weakening global trends.

Trading sentiments turned bearish after copper and other base metals fell in global markets on concern that record prices and the prospect of more tightening measures by China, the largest user of the metal, may hurt its demand.

Meanwhile, three-month delivery copper lost 1.3 per cent to $9,886 and nickel declined 0.9 per cent to $28,500 a tonne on the London Metal Exchange.

In the national capital, copper wire scrap, copper wire bar and copper mixed scrap were remained under selling pressure and shed another Rs 2 each to Rs 521, Rs 544 and Rs 505 per kg, respectively.

Nickel (4x4) followed suit and lost Rs 5 to Rs 1,057-1,059 per kg.
