Copper, nickel up on increased offtake

Select base metals, copper and nickel, rose upto Rs 5 per kg in the local non-ferrous metal market today on increased offtake by consuming industries amid a firming global trend.

Apart from pick up in demand from consuming industries, persistent rise in base metal prices in global markets on an improved outlook for demand also supported the upside in select base metal prices.

Meanwhile, copper for three-month delivery added 0.3 per cent to $7,029 a metric tonne on the London Metal Exchange.

In the national capital, copper wire scrap, copper wire bar and copper mixed scrap gained Rs 2 each to Rs 369, Rs 388 and Rs 347, while nickel (4x4) strengthened by Rs 5 to Rs 877 -991 per kg, respectively.
