Copper futures for February traded higher by Rs 1.50, or 0.34%, at Rs 447.20 per kg in 3,521 lots.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, the April contract rose by Rs 1.40, or 0.31% to Rs 451.65 per kg in 205 lots.

Copper prices on the London Metal Exchange were supported by a jump in US imports and speculation of an economic recovery in Europe. Good economic environment would boost demand for industrial metals like copper.

On the London Metal Exchange, the three months' contract gained 0.6% to trade at $ 8,095.25 a tonne.

Pick-up in domestic demand also supported the trade.
