Copper prices rose by Rs 1.60 to Rs 328.90 per kg in futures trade today as traders enlarged positions after the metal hit a two-month high on the London Metal Exchange in yesterday's trading.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange platform, copper for August month rose by Rs 1.60 or 0.46 per cent to Rs 328.90 per kg with an open interest of 9 lots. It ended 1.5 per cent higher at Rs 327.30 per kg after hitting an intra-day high of Rs 330.40 per kg in the previous session.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in November month gained Rs 0.55, or 0.44 per cent to Rs 331.65 per kg in 11 lots.

Analysts attributed firming trend at London Metal Exchange after copper surged to two-month high of $7,050 per tonne, and declining metal stockpiles for high future prices.
