Buoyed by firm global trend, copper prices rose Rs 2.70 to Rs 425.25 per kg in futures trade today as speculators created fresh positions.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in April rose by Rs 2.70, or 0.64% to Rs 425.25 per kg in business turnover of 14,211 lots.

The June contract moved up by Rs 2.60, or 0.61% to Rs 430.20 per kg in 717 lots.

Analysts said fresh buying by speculators in tandem with a firming global trend mainly led to rise in copper prices at futures market.

Meanwhile, copper rose by 0.9% to $8,406.25 a tonne on the London Metal Exchange.
