Prices of copper and other base metals strengthened by up to Rs 5 per kg in the local non-ferrous metal market today largely supported by a firming trend overseas amid pick-up in industrial demand.

Traders said the rise in select base metals at the local market was mostly due to a firming trend at the London Metal Exchange after data last week showed that US manufacturing grew at a strong pace in June.

In addition, pick-up in industrial demand also supported the upside in base metals, they said. In the national capital, copper wire scrap, copper wire bar and copper mixed scrap were up by Rs 2 each to Rs 505, Rs 528 and Rs 488 per kg, respectively.

Lead ingot and lead import also gained Rs 2 each at Rs 142 and Rs 145 per kg, respectively.

Nickel plate (4x4) also moved up by Rs 5 to Rs 1,045-1,047 per kg.
