Copra rallies on strong demand, ginger declines

Copra Rajapur and and copra edible prices shotup at the spices market here today on emergence of hectic buying by stockists and retailers in view of forthcoming festivities.    

Elsewhere, copra Kozhikode and copra Alapuzha rose further owing to steady domestic demand amidst firm offtake from millers.   

"Apart from forthcoming festivities and marriage demand, delay in arrival of new stocks is causing price rise," traders said.     

Meanwhile, both the ginger varities declined due to subdued retail buying coupled with higher arrivals.    

Copra Rajapur Mumbai and copra edible Mumbai surged by Rs 200 per quintal each to Rs 8,500 and Rs 7,900 from Tuesday's closing level of Rs 8,300 and Rs 7,700.   

Copra office Kozhikode hardened by Rs 125 per quintal to Rs 6,425 from Rs 6,300 and copra office Alapuzha also gained by Rs 50 per quintal to Rs 6,600 as against Rs 6,550 yesterday.     

However, ginger bleacbed fell by Rs 19 per kg to Rs 201 from yesterday's closing level of Rs 220 and ginger unbleached moved down by Rs 9 per kg to Rs 231 as compared to Rs 240.   

Following are today's closing rates in Rs, with the previous rates in brackets: 

Black pepper (per kg) 235/249 (235/249), ginger bleached (per kg) 201 (220), ginger unbleached (per kg) 231 (240), copra office Alapuzha (per quintal) 6,600 (6,550)

copra office Kozhikode (per quintal) 6,425 (6,300), copra Rajapur Mumbai (per quintal) 8,500 (8,300) and copra edible Mumbai (per quintal) 7,900 (7,700)
