Copra prices flared up at the spices market here today due to strong buying from stockists and bulk consumers amid rising domestic demand.

Besides the ongoing festive demand, lower arrivals from the key producing regions also supported the uptrend in copra prices, traders said.

Copra office Kozhikode, copra Rajapur Mumbai and copra edible Mumbai shot-up by Rs 200 per quintal each to Rs 4,900, Rs 6,800 and Rs 5,800 from weekend's closing level of Rs 4,700, Rs 6,600 and Rs 5,600 respectively.

Copra office Alapuzha also rose by Rs 100 per quintal to Rs 5,000, as against Rs 4,900 of last Saturday.

Meanwhile, black pepper, ginger bleached and ginger unbleached closed steady in the absence of necessary buying support.

Following are today's closing rates in rupees, with the previous rates in brackets:

Black Pepper (per kilo) 211/225 (211/225), ginger bleached (per kilo) 235 (235), ginger unbleached (per kilo) 250 (250), copra office Alapuzha (per quintal) 5,000 (4,900)

copra office Kozhikode (per quintal) 4,900 (4,700), copra Rajapur Mumbai (per quintal) 6,800 (6,600) and copra edible Mumbai (per quintal) 5,800 (5,600)
