Crude oil prices on Monday gained 0.74 per cent in futures trading on emergence of buying by traders on the back of a firming global trend where the prices crossed $60 a barrel level.

Marketmen said the oil held above $60 a barrel in Asian trade ahead of a meeting this week of the OPEC. The crude oil for August month delivery rose by 0.74 per cent to Rs 2,998 per barrel on the Multi Commodity Exchange, clocking a business volume of nine lots.

The oil for June month contract rose 0.48 per cent to Rs 2,905 per barrel.

It recorded a business volume of 4,743 lots. The crude for July month contract also rose by 0.41 per cent to Rs 2,946 per barrel in 189 lots. Marketmen said the buying activities picked up on expectations that improvement in global economic growth would push up demand for the energy oil.
