Crude oil prices fell by Rs 74 or 2.17 per cent to Rs 3,337 per barrel in futures trading today, as traders reduced their positions on the back of weakening global trend.
Trading sentiment turned weak after oil prices fell below $74 in the Asian trade on uncertainties in the eurozone.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, crude oil May contract fell by Rs 74, or 2.17 per cent to Rs 3,337 per barrel, with an open interest of 30,883 lots.
The oil for delivery in June contract also declined by Rs 30, or 0.74 per cent to Rs 3,548 per barrel, with an open interest of 6,983 lots.
Marketmen said, fresh off-loading by traders, weakening trend in overseas market mainly led to a fall in crude oil prices at futures trade.
Meanwhile, crude for June delivery dropped 62 cents to $73.78 in New York.
