Crude oil futures rose by Rs 25 to Rs 5,420 per barrel today as speculators created fresh positions amid a firming trend in the Asian trade.

The trading sentiment improved after crude oil rebounded from an overnight dive in Asian trades as data showing stronger US energy demand outweighed assurances of a supply boost by Saudi Arabia.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, April crude oil rose by Rs 25 or 0.46%, to Rs 5,420 per barrel in 3,258 lots.

The May contract moved up by Rs 24, or 0.44%, to Rs 5,467 per barrel in 109 lots.

Meanwhile, crude oil advanced by 54 cents $106.61 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
