Grain exports would see major changes soon. Initially, infrastructure will be built at Kolkata, Kakinada and Mundra ports, including storage facilities at ports and back-up infrastructure at procurement and trading centres.

"The investment is estimated at Rs 350-400 crore and would be ready by 2005," said K K Datta, managing director of Modular Consultants Pvt Ltd (MCPL) at a meeting with Federation of Indian Exporters' Association (FIEO).

MCPL was consultant for the consortium. Cimbria of Denmark and Navayuga Infrastructure Corporation of Andhra Pradesh were its members.

Millers or exporters could procure grain and book it through to factory gate or port as the consortium will provide multimodal logistic support from booking of railway rake to delivery.

Cimbria's bulk grain handling technology will be used to transport grain in closed modules with use of sacks being minimised.
