The domestic air purifier market in India is estimated at Rs 400 crore and growing by almost 60% year-on-year (y-o-y).
The total market size comprises both the residential and institutional segments, Philips India president (personal health) A D A Ratnam told Business Standard here.
He said that the air purifier space was expected to keep up with its growth trajectory owing to rising awareness amongst people and expansion of retail points.
Philips had entered the segment in 2014 end by initially targetting the bigger towns of Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore etc.
"There is even greater need of air purifiers in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan etc due to higher indoor air pollution. The situation is compounded by large scale construction activities going on in these states that further deteriorates the quality of air that people breathe," he underlined.
He claimed while most people were aware of outdoor pollution, they were oblivious that indoor air was almost three times polluted than outdoors due to polluting agents like smoke, air freshners, dust particles etc.
