The Dow was up 119 points, or 1.5%, at 8,076. The Nasdaq gained 42 points, or 2.5%, to 1,694.
Indian ADRs were mostly up on Friday.
Tata Motors and Sterlite rallied over 5% each to $7.59 and $8.2, respectively.
Patni Computers gained 4% at $7.5. ICICI Bank advanced 3% to $18.08.
HDFC Bank, Wipro and Infosys moved up 1-2% each.
However, Tata Communications shed 4.5% at $22. Satyam declined 1.5% to $9.12.
Dr.Reddy's dropped over 1% to $10.82.
