Oil prices touching record new trading and closing highs yesterday failed to dampen the Dow Jones sentiment, as it rallied sharply for the seventh straight session to end 44 points higher at 10,623. The Nasdaq, however, ended flat at 2,090.

Indian floats largely had a smooth outing on Friday, with select counters slipping into lower levels. Infosys moved up 2.90% to $75.56, while Satyam and Wipro ended marginally higher at $25.97 and $21.91, respectively.

HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and VSNL, too, reported steady gains to close at $47.19, $22.10 and $10.60, respectively. MTNL, however, dropped 2.62% to $6.70, with Dr. Reddy's and Tata Motors, too, easing into the red at $16.62 and $9.60, respectively.
