Dow, Nasdaq crash 9% on economic worries; ADRs tumble

The Wall Street slumped on Monday following Bernanke's comments that the US economy contiued to remain under considerable stress. The major indices shed 9% each. The Dow Industrial Average index tumbled 680 points to 8,149. The Nasdaq crashed 138 points at 1,398.

Indian ADRs, too, ended with huge losses. Tata Motors crumbled nearly 18% to $3.75. Wipro plunged over 14% to $6.48, and ICICI Bank tumbled 13.5% to $12.32. Sterlite and HDFC Bank slumped around 11% each to $4.41 and $50.82, respectively. Satyam, Infosys and Patni Computers were down 6-7% each.
