Select edible oil prices fell by Rs 20 per quintal in the wholesale oils and oilseed market today on fall in demand at prevailing levels amid a weakening global trend.
However, non-edible oils remained steady in the absence of worthwhile buying activity.
Trading sentiments in edible oils turned bearish after palm oil declined in Malaysia, ending the longest rally in more than two months, and as falling crude oil prices reduced the appeal of the commodity as a source of biofuel.
Meanwhile, palm oil for the August-delivery declined by 0.9% to $1,103 per metric tonne on the Malaysia Derivatives Exchange.
In the national capital, palmolein (rbd) and palmolein (Kandla) oils declined by Rs 20 each to Rs 5,900 and Rs 5,600, respectively, while crude palm oil (ex-kandla) oil traded lower by the same margin to Rs 5,330 per quintal, respectively.
