Select edible oils prices fell by up to Rs 50 per quintal in the wholesale oils and oilseeds market today on sluggish demand amid a weakening global trend.
Sentiments remained bearish as palm oil dropped in Malaysia after US farmers accelerated soybean plantings amid warmer, drier weather last week. Crude oil also declined, cutting the appeal of vegetable oils as feedstock for biofuels.
Meanwhile, palm oil for the August-delivery fell by 0.4%, to $1,072 a tonne on the Malaysia Derivatives Exchange.
In the national capital, soybean refined mill delivery (Indore) and soybean degum (Kandla) oils remained weak and shed another Rs 30 each to Rs 6,250 and Rs 5,850, respectively, while crude palm oil (ex-kandla) shed Rs 20 to Rs 5,230 per quintal.
Palmolein (rbd) and palmolein (Kandla) oils also fell by Rs 50 each to Rs 5,750 and Rs 5,450 per quintal, respectively.
