Amid a weakening global trend and sluggish demand, edible oil prices fell further by up to Rs 50 per quintal in the wholesale oils and oilseeds market today.
Trading sentiments remained weak after palm oil dropped the most in almost two months in global markets as commodities and equities markets slumped amid concern that the US economic recovery is weakening.
Meanwhile, palm oil for the October-delivery contract fell 2.6% to $1,004 a tonne on the Malaysia Derivatives Exchange, the biggest loss since June 9.
In the national capital, mustard expeller (Dadri) declined by Rs 20 to Rs 6,000. Sesame oil shed Rs 30 and cottonseed mill delivery (Haryana) oil lost Rs 20 to Rs 6,200 and Rs 5,530 per quintal, respectively.
Taking cues from overseas market, soyabean refined mill delivery (Indore) and soyabean degum (Kandla) oils fell by Rs 50 each to Rs 6,450 and Rs 5,950 per quintal, respectively.
Palmolein (rbd) and palmolein (Kandla) oils moved down by Rs 50 each to Rs 5,850 and Rs 5,550, respectively.
