The Food Corporation of India will release an additional 25,000 tonne of wheat for open market sale in Delhi in March in a bid to check rising prices.

This will be in addition to the 10,000 tonne for Delhi released earlier this month, an official release said.

"This additional release, together with the arrival of wheat from Gujarat, is expected to improve supply and ease the open market prices," the release said.

After the move, the total release of wheat under open market sale in different states since January stands at 6,48,000 tonne.

In January, the government had announced the release of 4,50,000 tonne of wheat during the January-March quarter. However, the allocation was later increased following the rise in wheat prices.
