The Food Corporation of India will release an additional 25,000 tonne of wheat for open market sale in Delhi in March in a bid to check rising prices. |
This will be in addition to the 10,000 tonne for Delhi released earlier this month, an official release said. |
"This additional release, together with the arrival of wheat from Gujarat, is expected to improve supply and ease the open market prices," the release said. |
After the move, the total release of wheat under open market sale in different states since January stands at 6,48,000 tonne. |
In January, the government had announced the release of 4,50,000 tonne of wheat during the January-March quarter. However, the allocation was later increased following the rise in wheat prices. |
