FIIs still sellers in equities, MFs step up buying

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) recorded net sales of Rs 35.60 crore ($8 million) in equities for the trading week ended May 6 while mutual funds (MFs) were net purchasers at Rs 367.18 crore.

Foreign funds were net purchasers at Rs 79.8 crore ($18.2 million) in the debt market during the period under review, according to data available with Sebi.

MFs were also net purchasers in the debt market at Rs 1,308.91 crore.

Overseas funds were net sellers in equities on three trading days of the week. They recorded the highest net outflow of the trading week at Rs 67.70 crore ($15.50 million) on May 5.

MFs recorded the highest net purchases in the equity market on May 5 at Rs 140.09 crore.

The Sensex gained 234.04 points to close at 6,388.48 points last week.
