Focus Shifts To Mid-Caps

Trading focus on the markets today sharply shift to mid-cap stocks which will still continue to be settled on a weekly basis.

The volumes in the A group shares on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which have started trading in the rolling mode, declined by 65.21 per cent to Rs 384.49 crore. On the other hand, the volumes in the B1 and B group segment increased by almost 34.02 per cent to Rs 120.12 crore.

Significantly, the advance-decline ratio in this segment with 601 stocks advancing and mere 259 stocks on decline.

Brokers said volumes in many leading shares plunged as new trading rules caused speculators to turn elsewhere and the changes included ending the country's unique, century-old and immensely popular carryforward trading -- which at one time accounted for over 90 percent of volumes on stock exchanges.

 

Media stocks was the flavour of the day. The list of stocks which hit the hit the 8 per cent upper limit of the circuit breaker includes Balaji Telefilms (up 7.57 per cent to Rs 226).

While Mukta Arts (Rs 158.80), Pritish Nandy Communications (Rs 41.30), G V Films (Rs 15.60), Cinevista Communications (Rs 47.55), Tips Industries (Rs 78.85), Mid-Day Multimedia (Rs 29.60) and Creative Eye (Rs 22.55).

Speculative buying was seen in technology stocks, which were not included in the rolling settlement. Among these stocks included Sierra Optima (Rs 69.20), Onward Technologies (Rs 46.25) and Orient Information (Rs 50.65) hit the 16 per cent upper limit of the circuit breaker.

Kale Consultants (up 11.99 per cent to Rs 47.65), Infotech Enterprises (up 8.98 per cent to Rs 121.35) and R S Software (up 8.94 per cent to Rs 72.55) crossed the 8 per cent upper limit of the circuit breaker.

Among telecom stocks, Goldstone Technologies (Rs 30.25) hit the 16 per cent upper limit of the circuit breaker. And Aksh Optifibre (Rs 145.85) hit the 8 per cent upper limit of the circuit breaker.

Nelco (up 15.53 per cent to Rs 12.65), Krone Communications (up 13.61 per cent to Rs 144.85) and Punjab Communications (up 11.78 per cent to Rs 47.90) crossed the 8 per cent upper limit of the circuit breaker.

Pharma stocks including Kopran (up 13.64 per cent to Rs 49.15) and Ipca Laboratories (up 12.24 per cent to Rs 70.15) crossed the 8 per cent upper limit of the circuit breaker. Also, Krebs Biochem (Rs 97.95) and KDL Biotech (Rs 31.15) hit the 8 per cent upper limit of the circuit breaker.
