The food ministry has set up a committee to suggest the World Trade Organisation (WTO) compatible ways of subsidising wheat and rice exports as part of an overall policy for hassle-free foodgrain exports.
Headed by chairman of the Food Corporation of India (FCI), the seven-member committee will have representatives of the ministries of food, commerce and railways as members. It has been asked to submit its report by February-end.
According to food minister Sharad Yadav, the terms of reference of the committee include determining principles for export and import of foodgrains and formulating policy for WTO compatible subsidy.
