The Sensex is again heading towards the 18-k summit

The previous day's jolt seems to be a distant memory. The indices have retraced almost all their losses and in the process scotched apprehensions, if any, that uptrend was in danger of being violated anytime soon. The Sensex is again heading towards the 18-k summit. The bellweather is quoting at 17916, higher by 203 points, and the Nifty is at 5358, up 53 points. The mid-cap index is up 0.3% and the small-cap index has added 1.5%.

HDFC has displaced Tata Motors from the top gainers slot. The banking major is up 2.9% at Rs 2804. Jaiprakash Associates has added 2.7% at Rs 152 and Tata Motors has gained 2.6% at Rs 794. And index heavyweight, RIL is up 1.6% at Rs 1122.

On the other hand, Tata Power, Hindustan Unilever and Bharti Airtel have edged marginally lower at Rs 1362, Rs 222 and Rs 312 respectively.

The market breadth is positive. Out of 2702 stocks traded on the BSE thus far, there are 1900 advancing stocks as against 724 declines.
