Fund managers in sell mode

The market exhibited volatile movements last week and it ended on a weak note as compared to last week. The benchmark Smart Portfolios S&P CNX 500 index net worth declined marginally by 0.63 per cent to Rs 11.08 lakh from Rs 11.01 lakh. All the fund managers last week were in sell mode, excluding Phani Sekhar. Cumulatively, the fund managers were net sellers of stocks worth Rs 5.40 lakh in the week under review.

Ajay Parmar

Ajay Parmar executed eight trades, which were all on the sell side. His portfolio value declined by 2.74 per cent to Rs 12.77 lakh when compared to the previous week. Parmar's investments stand at Rs 8.67 lakh while he holds cash worth Rs 4.10 lakh. He was a net seller of stocks worth Rs 4.06 lakh. He booked partial profits in pharma stocks, Cadila Healthcare and Torrent Pharma for a consideration Rs 87,101. He sold his entire holdings in Bhushan Steel, Sesa Goa and Orbit Corporation with losses in the range of 1-9 per cent each.

Amar Ambani's portfolio marginally declined by 0.36 per cent to Rs 13.65 lakh last week from Rs 13.70 lakh in the preceding week. He executed seven trades last week all on the sell side. He sold stocks worth Rs 2.47 lakh. He exited from Zandu Realty and Dena Bank for gains in the range of 6-16 per cent. However, he sales in stocks such as McLeod Russel and Valesh Engineering resulted in a loss of 13 per cent and 6 per cent, respectively. His total investments now stand at Rs 6.24 lakh, while he maintains a huge cash worth Rs 7.41 lakh.

Vinay Khattar

Vinay Khattar was the most active trader among the fund managers, he executing nine trades of which six on the buy side. He bought stocks worth Rs 2.75 lakh in the last week. He made fresh purchases in Reliance Communications, S Kumar Nationwide, Aventis Pharma and Bajaj FinServ. He also added Rallis India, BGR Energy and Havells India to his portfolio. At the end of the week, his net worth saw a marginal decline from Rs 11.23 lakh to Rs 11.19 lakh. Khattar still holds 12 stocks in his portfolio for a total investment of Rs 6.98 lakh. Khattar exited from UCO Bank and ONGC for gains beween 2 per cent and 5 per cent, while he made a 13 per cent loss in Piramal Healthcare.
