Gains amid volatility

 In an extremely choppy trading session, moving in a range of 82 points, the Sensex touched a high of 4,748.19 and a low of 4,666.19 in intra-day trades today.

 The NSE S&P CNX Nifty index closed with a loss of 3.55 points at 1,481.75.

 Foreign institutional investors were net buyers at Rs 112 crore on October 27 while mutual funds were also net purchasers at Rs 36.80 crore. Incidentally, the market had fallen by 104 points on Monday.

 Turnover at the BSE was at Rs 2,115.87 crore while at the NSE it was Rs 4,886.64 crore. Losers at 820 outpaced gainers at 439 on the BSE.

 The market displayed extreme volatility with players remaining cautious ahead of the expiry of October series contracts on Thursday.
