Gains wiped out, Sensex flat; Sterlite surges 8%

The Sensex has erased all its gains and is now almost flat at 9,095 - up two points.

The Sensex has once again pared some more gains, and is now up 86 points at 9,179.

Sterlite has soared 7.7% to Rs 255. Reliance Communications and Jaiprakash Associates have surged over 6% each to Rs 208 and Rs 60, respectively.

Tata Steel and TCS have rallied 4.5% each to Rs 158 and Rs 582, respectively.

HDFC Bank and ONGC have moved up 3.7% each to Rs 955 and Rs 722, respectively.

Reliance has gained 3.3% at Rs 1,169. Infosys and Reliance Infrastructure have advanced around 2.5% each to Rs 1,274 and Rs 514, respectively.

 

Bharti Airtel, Grasim, Larsen & Toubro, DLF and Satyam are up around 2% each.

Maruti has plunged nearly 5% to Rs 510. Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Power have dropped over 3% each to Rs 273 and Rs 648, respectively.

ICICI Bank has slipped nearly 2% to Rs 345, and Tata Motors is down 1% at Rs 135.

The market breadth is fairly positive - out of 1,790 stocks traded so far, 1,114 have advanced, 614 have declined and the rest are unchanged,
