Ghodawat to expand floriculture business

Kolhapur-based Sanjay Ghodawat Group is set to make the floriculture its prime business. The group which currently has a capacity of 100,000 flowers a day, plans to take this up to 250,000 flowers by the end of FY11.

The group with a turnover of Rs 1,000 crore has 20.24 hectares of land under its flower business, out of the total 50 hectares of land under agro-business. It is adding another 17 hectares for its flower segment. For this, it is investing Rs 20 crore in floriculture.

Shrenik S Ghodawat, director, Ghodawat Agro (part of the Sanjay Ghodawat group) said, “We have seen a rise in net margins in floriculture segment from 20-25 per cent in FY08 to 40 per cent in FY09. It’s a business which is less capital intensive but gives good returns. We hope that in the current financial year, our margins will jump to 50 per cent.”
