The International Gemological Institute (IGI), the gem and jewellery certification laboratory in India has launched the Laserscribe, a diamond laser inscription system, for both jewellers and consumers.

The inscription can be used by the jewellers to mark their diamonds as certified, and consumers can personalise their diamonds by inscribing a message on the diamond.

"Worldwide, diamond inscription is a much sought after and used service. With IGI launching the service in India, it should give the fast growing diamond gifting trend a further impetus," said Tehmasp Printer, managing director, IGI.

Some of India's leading diamond brands like Adora, ORRA, Arisia, Ishis, and Goldstar's Elinor that are certified by IGI are using this value added service to provide added security and confidence to customers.

Other popular retail brands like Asmi, Nakshatra, Sangini, Gitanjali, D'damas are also using this facility.

The price of the inscription ranges between Rs 300 to Rs 500 depending on the message and the certificate number.

IGI certifies over 500 gemstones and jewellery in a day. The number of gemologists on the team have also increased from 3 in 1999 when IGI opened shop in India, to over 120 gemologists currently.
