Global markets today are witnessing a sharp relief rally after the US government raised hopes of a comprehensive solution to the financial crisis. Following which the major US indices on Thrusday ended on a strong note - The Dow Industrial Average surged nearly 4% (410 points) to 11,020. The Nasdaq soared 4.8% (100 points) to 2,199.
Most of the Asian markets today surged around 5% each. China's Shanghai Composite index and the Hong Kong's Hang Seng zoomed over 9% each. The Shanghai Composite index was up 9.5% (179 points) at 2,075, and the Heng Seng index soared 9% (1,596 points) to 19,228.
Among other Asian markets - Japan's Nikkei rallied 3.8% (432 points) to 11,921. The Straits Times index gained 5.8% (141 points) at 2,560, and the Seoul Composite index added 4.5% (63 points) to 1,456. The Taiwan Weighted index rallied 5.8% (328 points) to 5,970.
The European markets, too, have joined the party. At 1620 IST, the FTSE 100 had zoomed 8% (392 points) to 5,272. The CAC 40 had surged 6.8% (269 points) to 4,227, and the DAX had advanced 4.7% (276 points) to 6,140.
