Extending its record-breaking spree for the third straight day, gold here rose to Rs 19,900 per ten grams while silver climbed to a record level of Rs 35,300 per kg today.
The precious metals are in demand following a firm overseas market trend and beginning of the festival and marriage season tomorrow.
Trading sentiment was bullish as gold in international markets zoomed to record levels of $1,361.20 an ounce, while silver hit a 30-year high of $23.42 an ounce, the highest since September 1980.
In the national capital, the gold of 99.9 and 99.5 per cent purity surged by Rs 150 each to Rs 19,900 and Rs 19,800 per ten grams respectively.
However, sovereign, remained steady at Rs 15,600 per piece of eight gram in select deals.
Keeping up with the general firming trend, silver ready shot up by Rs 400 to trade above Rs 35,000 level to Rs 35,300 per kg. It had gained by Rs 1,200 per kg in the previous session.
Silver weekly-based delivery also spurted by Rs 335 to Rs 34,715 per kg on huge speculative buying. Silver coins continued to trade around previous level of Rs 35,700 for buying and Rs 35,800 for selling of 100 pieces.
