After giving up five per cent last calendar year, domestic equities have had a good year, with the benchmark Nifty gaining more than eight per cent in the first nine months. What's encouraging is that the broader markets have outperformed by a huge margin, with the BSE Midcap index gaining 18 per cent. The gains are on the back of sharp overseas flows, amid loose monetary policy globally.
Experts believe the markets could enter a consolidation phase in the remaining three months of the year. Global uncertainties such as US elections, monetary tightening by the US Federal Reserve and the health of European banks could weigh on the markets. Domestically, earnings recovery, policy action by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the government along with the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan will play on investors' mind.
