Gujarat Ambuja up on robust numbers

Gujarat Ambuja Cements (GACL) spurted 9 per cent to Rs 118.60 after it reported strong results for the third quarter ended March 31, 2006.
 
The company posted a net profit of Rs 298.59 crore for the March 2006 quarter compared with Rs 143.11 crore for the corresponding period last year.
 
GACL reported a growth of 13 per cent in despatches for the month "" March 2006. The cement despatches for the month stood at 13.29 lakh tonne, up from 11.79 lakh tonne in March 2005.
 
Cement production increased 12 per cent to 13.33 lakh tonne, up from 11.85 lakh tonne in March 2005. The scrip was the most active among the group A stocks recording a trading volume of around 52.17 lakh shares with a total turnover of around Rs 60.17 crore.
