Even as the equities markets continue to face a roller-coaster ride, Gujarat-based investors have emerged among the top players even in the present volatile market condition.

According to Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) officials, investors from Gujarat command around 20 per cent of the total daily turnover in the market.

According to senior officials, majority of the investments in the equities markets come from Gujarat.

"Of the total turnover of the markets, Gujarat-based investors command around 20 per cent. This is equivalent to the turnover registered by the Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs)," informed Ashishkumar Chauhan, MD & CEO, BSE.

Notably, total average daily turnover in the equities and derivatives segment is registered in the range of around Rs 1.9 to Rs 2 lakh crore.

As per the available data, average daily turnover in the cash segment is around Rs 11,600 crore, while in the derivatives segment, the turnover is registered at around Rs 186,000 crore.

According to Chauhan, BSE's derivatives contracts are gaining momentum and the exchange's scheme of Liquidity Enhancement Incentive Programme Scheme (LEIPS) has given the desired fruits.

"It has been very successful in getting traders' participation. In the derivatives segment, we have been able to achieve the peak daily turnover of Rs 172,000 crore," said Chauhan, who was in town for a seminar on BSE SME platform organised by Federation of Gujarat Industries (FGI).

Chauhan further mentioned that even in the present market scenario, investors have maintained their confidence in the market.
