Gujarat limits wheat stock

Gujarat State Civil Supplies Department has put a limit on wheat stock held by retailers, wholesalers and flour mill owners in the state at 3,000 quintal per month, S K Nanda, principal secretary, civil supplies department, told NewsWire18.

"Maximum stock limit is at 3,000 quintal per month and no body can keep a stock beyond this limit in a month except exempted firms," Nanda said.

Nanda added,"The notification will come into effect at the end of January which also coincides with the arrival of new wheat crop in the market."

He said those procuring wheat have to declare their stocks to the department and if wheat stock was found higher than the declared stock, it will seized by the department.

District supply officers and collectors have given power to implement the notification, he said.

Gujarat State Civil Supplies Corporation and Public Distribution System is exempted from the restrictions, he informed.
