The wholesale gur prices tumbled by Rs 200 per quintal in the wholesale jaggery market today, following heavy arrivals of new stock against reduced offtake.

Muzzafarnagar gur market also showed a fall of Rs 100 per quintal owing to fresh arrivals. Marketmen said, heavy arrivals of new stocks into the market from gur manufacturing areas amid poor offtake by retailers, mainly led sharp fall in gur prices.

Heavy production of sugar-cane this year also helped to brought down the trading sentiments, they added.

In Delhi, gur chakku prices plunged from Rs 3,000-3,100 to Rs 2,800-2,850 per quintal, while shakkar prices slipped from Rs 3,050-3,150 to Rs 2,900-3,000 per quintal.

Gur pedi and dhayya prices also dropped from Rs 2,900-3,000 and Rs 3,100-3,150 to conclude at Rs 2,800-2,900 and Rs 2,950-3,000 per quintal, respectively.

At Muzzafarnagar, gur chakku and khurpa prices quoted lower from Rs 2,625-2,700 and Rs 2,500-2,600 to Rs 2,600-2,700 and Rs 2,425-2,500 per quintal, respectively. Gur raskat also fell from Rs 2,000-2,100 to Rs 1,950-2,000 per quintal on poor offtake by alcohol making industries.
