The wholesale gur (jaggery) prices tumbled by Rs 250 per quintal in the national capital today, following heavy arrivals of new crops amid reduced offtake by stockists.

Muzzafarnagar and Muradnagar gur market also showed a sharp loss up to Rs 250 per quintal on ample supply.

Marketmen said heavy supply of new production into the market and shifting of buying to sugar for the festivals, pulled down gur prices.

The rise in offtake in sugar by soft drink and ice cream makers, dampened the trading sentiment to some extent, they said.

In Delhi, gur chakku plunged from Rs 2,750-2,800 to close at Rs 2,550-2,650 per quintal.

Pedi and shakkar prices also fell from Rs 2,700-2,750 and Rs 2,900-3,000 to finish at Rs 2,500-2,550 and Rs 2,700-2,750 per quintal.

Muzzafarnagar, gur chakku and khurpa also plummeted from Rs 2,450-2,600 and Rs 2,300-2,375 to conclude at Rs 2,200-2,400 and Rs 2,050-2,100 per quintal, respectively.
