Gur prices surge on poor sugarcane supply

The wholesale gur prices firmed up by up to Rs 100 per quintal in the national capital today, following less availability of sugarcane amid brisk buying support.

Muzzafarnagar and Muradnagar gur market also climbed up by Rs.75 per quintal due to paucity of stocks.

Market analysts said, poor arrivals of sugarcane amid heavy buying by stockist and retailers, mainly brought the rise in gur prices. In Delhi, gur pedi prices shot up from Rs 2,350-2,400 to Rs 2,450-2,500 per quintal.

Gur shakkar and chakku prices surged from Rs 2,550-2,600 and Rs 2,350-2,400 to finish at Rs 2,600-2,700 and Rs 2,400-2,450 per quintal, respectively.

At Muzzafarnagar, gur chakku and khurpa prices gained from Rs 2,200-2,325 and Rs 2,075-2,125 to conclude at Rs 2,250-2,350 and Rs 2,100-2,175 per quintal, respectively.

Gur raskat also attracted buyers attention due to rise in alcohol making industries demand and rose from Rs 1,800-1,900 to Rs 1,900-1,975, showing a rise of Rs 100 per quintal.

Turning to Muradnagar, there too prices of gur pedi and dhayya remained in keen demand and settled higher at Rs 2,200-2,250 and Rs 2,250-2,300 instead of Rs 2,140-2,200 and Rs 2,175-2,225 per quintal, respectively.

In Muzaffarnagar: Raskat Rs 1,900-1,975 chakku Rs 2,250-2,350 and Khurpa Rs 2,100-2,175
In Muradnagar: Pedi Rs 2,200-2,250 and Dhaya Rs 2,250-2,300
