The Haryana government has made all arrangements for smooth procurement of wheat during the 2011 rabi season, an official spokesman said today.
The state government is committed to making payments to the farmers within 48-72 hours after procuring the crop.
For this, a cash credit limit of Rs 7,373 crore has been arranged from the Reserve Bank of India for purchase of wheat, the spokesman said here.
He said the wheat procurement season has been notified from April 1 to May 31, 2011, and the staff of the procurement agencies will remain present in the 'mandis' from April 1.
This year, about 65 lakh metric tonnes of wheat was likely to arrive in Haryana mandis, he said, adding the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for wheat had been fixed at Rs 1,120 per quintal.
As many as 367 mandis or purchase centres have been set up for procurement of wheat. He said the procurement agencies will ensure that farmers do not get a price lower than the MSP and do not have to resort to distress sale of their produce.
