Vedanta Group firm Hindustan Zinc today surged by 4%in the early trade on BSE today, buoyed by a smart rise in its mined metal and refined zinc production for the quarter ended March 31, 2011.
The company shares jumped by 4%to Rs 149 on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). In a similar fashion, the scrip was trading 3.68%up at Rs 149 a piece on National Stock Exchange.
In terms of volume, over 27 lakh shares of the company changed hands on the two bourses within the first two hours of the trade.
The company's mined metal production increased by 19%at 2.31 lakh tonnes in the fourth quarter and 9%at 8.4 lakh tonnes for the year ended March 31, 2011.
Similarly, its refined zinc production for the last quarter of FY'2011 rose by 29%to 1.94 lakh tonnes. On annual basis, the surge was 23%at 7.12 lakh tonnes of the metal produced in fiscal year 2010-2011.
Meanwhile, the BSE benchmark Sensex was trading at 19,317.13 level at 11:26 hrs, which is 134.32 points lower than its previous close.
