IBM numbers spruce up US indices

Healthy earnings report by IBM helped US markets post strong gains on Tuesday, with the S&P hitting a fresh 4-year high to close at 1,229. While the Dow Jones advanced 72 points to 10,647, the Nasdaq moved up 28 points to 2,173.

Indian floats, barring Infosys, notched up significant gains. Wipro gained 2.82% to $21.18, and Satyam jumped 2.16% to $27.43. Infosys, however, inched marginally lower to close at $71.

HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Dr. Reddy's, Tata Motors, VSNL and MTNL rose between 2-4%.
