Vanaspati manufacturers in eastern India, which had closed down because of availability of importer duty free Nepalese imports, have been saved by recent government restrictions on imports. Vanaspati supply from Nepal has come down sharply from last month.
This has helped domestic manufacturers in states close to Nepal attain better price realisation. The manufacturing units which were forced to shut shop as they could not match the sale price of ultra-cheap vanaspati from Nepal. Seven units have started commercial production again of which five were in West Bengal, and one each in Bihar and Jharkhand.
