The sugar industry has urged the government to amend the list of goods under the Central Sales Tax, 1956, to include ethanol, a senior industry official said. |
"We want the Centre to include ethanol in the list of goods of national importance, which falls under the Central Sales Tax alone," S L Jain, director-general, Indian Sugar Mills Association, said. |
He said, once under the list, ethanol would be removed from the purview of state governments and they will not be able to levy any taxes currently prevalent across the country. |
