Driven by increased shipments, India's export of spices rose marginally to 42,860 tonnes in November, according to Spices Board.
During the month of November, country's total export of spices grew by mere 0.56 per cent to 42,860 tonnes as compared to 42,620 tonnes in the corresponding period last year, according to data compiled by Spices Board.
In value terms, exports rose 22 per cent to Rs 62,162.78 crore compared to Rs 50,969.37 crore a year ago.
In November, India exported 25,000 tonnes of Chili as compared to 19,500 tonnes in the similar period, an year ago.
"During April-November 2010, a total of 3.6 lakh tonnes of spices valued at Rs 4,320.8 crores has been exported from the country as against 341,950 tonnes valued at Rs 3770.1 crores in April-November 2009 registering an increase of six per cent in volume and 15 per cent in rupee terms of value," Spices Board said in a statement.
Compared to the spices export target of 465,000 tonnes valued Rs 5,100 crore fixed for current fiscal, the country has already achieved 78 per cent of the target in quantity and 85 per cent in value, the board said.
