Continuing its slide, jeera futures fell by Rs 242, or 1.71 per cent, to Rs 13,914 per 100 kg, as speculators reduced their positions on expectations of higher sowing in the ongoing monsoon season.
In addition, weak exports also weighed on the jeera futures.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange counter, jeera for delivery in September fell Rs 242, or 1.71 per cent, to Rs 13,914 per 100 kg, with an open interest of 12,290 lots.
Similarly, the spice for delivery in October traded Rs 222, or 1.55 per cent down, to Rs 14,125 per 100 kg, with an open interest of 14,652 lots, while spice for delivery in November fell by Rs 223, or 1.53 per cent, to Rs 14,320 per 100 kg, with an open interest of 990 lots.
Analysts said besides, off-loading of positions by speculators, hopes of higher sowing in the upcoming season following favourable monsoon rains, weak exports also weighed on the jeera futures here.
Meanwhile, jeera exports in April-July period of 2010 fell 19 per cent to 13,500 tonnes from the same period a year ago.
