Jeera prices declined by Rs 99 to Rs 17,139 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators booked profits at existing higher levels, driven by a weak trend at spot market on lower demand.
However, reports of higher sowing in the current rabi season restricted the losses.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in February declined by Rs 99, or 0.57%, to Rs 17,139 per quintal, with an open interest of 14,499 lots.
The January contract shed Rs 87, or 0.52%, to Rs 16,715 per quintal, with an open interest of 8,253 lots.
Analysts said besides profit-bookings by speculators at prevailing higher levels, subdued spot market demand mainly led to the fall in jeera prices at futures market.
