Jeera futures recovered by 0.53% to Rs 16,215 per quintal today as speculators created fresh positions at prevailing lower levels amid a pick-up in spot demand.

However, hopes of increased supply in the spot market due to higher sowing in the main producing regions limited the gains.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, February jeera moved up by Rs 85, or 0.53%, to Rs 16,215 per quintal, with an open interest for 16,419 lots.

The January delivery gained Rs 47, or 0.30%, to Rs 15,750 per quintal, with a trading volume of 6,129 lots.

Analysts said fresh positions built up by speculators at prevailing lower levels helped jeera futures trade higher, but hopes of a pick up in supply following reports of higher sowing in the main producing state, Gujarat, restricted the gains.
